Zygmunt Bauman, in his last book before his death, Retrotopia, wrote: "We are trained to be self-reliant - which translates as training us to be determined and ready at all times - and also to not rely on anyone's help but our own when we happen to get into trouble. Although the order of things was built without our participation, it is we, each of us individually, who must play the role of its guardians 24/7."
